“A Gathering of Voices”

A Celebration of North Carolina’s Musical Legacy

A Gathering of Voices is a live music event celebrating the profound impact of North Carolina’s music and recording artists over the past 250 years. Presented by The Music Industry Center (The MIC), the event honors America’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026 by showcasing the voices and sounds that have helped shape the nation's cultural and musical identity—rooted deeply in the Tar Heel State.

Through dynamic live performances, storytelling, and curated tributes, A Gathering of Voices will feature a diverse lineup of artists representing the many genres born or nurtured in North Carolina, including folk, blues, gospel, jazz, country, rock, soul, hip-hop, and more. The event offers an immersive experience that connects historical legacy with contemporary innovation, highlighting legendary figures and rising stars alike.

Attendees will journey through the rich legacy of North Carolina’s artists and their enduring contributions to the American soundtrack, spanning the colonial era to the modern digital age. In addition to live performances, the event will feature an oral history segment, where a curated panel of educators, historians, industry professionals, and subject-matter experts will share insights, context, and stories about the state’s musical heritage. Produced in collaboration with Rep. Renéé Price and Spirit of Freedom, this segment will be professionally videotaped and made available for public presentation at a later date.

A Gathering of Voices is more than a concert—it is a cultural tribute to the resilience, creativity, and enduring influence of North Carolina’s music community as the nation marks a historic milestone.

This project was supported through a grant from America 250 NC, a program of the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
